Run AI coding agents on your Mac
An always-on Mac where an agent can build and test Apple-platform code. Example: Claude Code.
Agents that write code for Apple platforms need a Mac to build and test it. A RunMac gives them one that stays on.
Example: Claude Code
curl -fsSL https://claude.ai/install.sh | bash
claude --version
Open a new terminal if claude isn’t found yet. Then start it in your project with claude and follow its sign-in prompts. It needs a paid Claude plan or a Console account; the free plan doesn’t include Claude Code. Homebrew also works: brew install --cask claude-code.
Other agents install in their own way; follow their documentation.
Good habits
- Run long sessions inside tmux so they continue after you disconnect.
- An agent runs commands as
dev, an administrator. Give it only the credentials it needs, and prefer a deploy key for one repository over your personal key. - Have it build and test with xcodebuild and the simulator.
- Push work to your repository regularly: the Mac is erased when the lease ends.
