Automate iOS UI tests with Appium

Install Appium and the XCUITest driver, check prerequisites, and test in the simulator.

Appium’s XCUITest driver needs a macOS host, Xcode and Appium. Your RunMac covers the first two once you install Xcode.

npm i -g appium
appium driver install xcuitest
appium driver doctor xcuitest

Install Node.js first (see the React Native guide for Node), and fix anything doctor reports. The driver supports the latest two major Xcode versions best; its documentation lists which driver works with which Xcode.

Run your tests against the iOS simulator. Real devices need extra setup and can’t be connected to Macs in our rack; see Testing on a real iPhone or iPad.
