Set up Flutter for iOS

Install the Flutter SDK, Rosetta, CocoaPods and check everything with flutter doctor.

First install Xcode and the iOS simulator. Then, following Flutter’s own guide:

  1. Get the SDK: download the Apple silicon Flutter SDK zip from flutter.dev and unzip it to ~/development/flutter (or use Flutter: New Project → Download SDK in VS Code).
  2. Add it to your PATH: add this line to ~/.zshenv, then open a new terminal:
    export PATH=$HOME/development/flutter/bin:$PATH
  3. Rosetta (some Flutter tools need it on Apple silicon):
    sudo softwareupdate --install-rosetta --agree-to-license
  4. CocoaPods (needed for plugins with native iOS code):
    sudo gem install cocoapods
  5. Check:
    flutter doctor
Android and Chrome warnings don’t matter for an iOS-only setup.

Run your app in the simulator with open -a Simulator and flutter run from your project.
