See the desktop with Screen Sharing
Open the macOS desktop from a Mac, Windows or Linux through your SSH connection.
Screen Sharing (VNC) isn’t open to the internet; it runs inside your SSH connection. Two steps.
1. Open the tunnel
ssh -p 2201 -L 5901:localhost:5900 dev@k7p2x9.runmac.dev
Leave that window open while you use the desktop. Local port 5901 is used so it never clashes with Screen Sharing on your own Mac.
2. Connect
- Mac: in a second Terminal window run
open vnc://localhost:5901, which opens the built-in Screen Sharing app. Or in Finder choose Go → Connect to Server and entervnc://localhost:5901. - Windows or Linux: any VNC viewer, for example TigerVNC or RealVNC Viewer, connected to
localhost:5901.
Sign in as dev with the first password shown on your Mac’s page, then change it (see Your macOS user and password).
Smoother sessions
The Macs are in Sydney. From Australia, New Zealand and nearby Asia the desktop feels local. From further away, SSH and CI work normally but the desktop lags a little; lower the display quality in your viewer, or do the work over SSH and use the desktop only for things that need it, like signing in to your Apple Account.
